Reed Selects: Favorite Grammy Lewks

When it comes to the lavish Red Carpets of Awards Season, the Grammy’s is definitely the wildest of wild cards where truly anything goes. some of the most iconic artists have descended upon the Grammy Carpet giving us chill bump inducing LEWKS, and it’s because of this that I have created this list of Grammy lewks of recent years that still leave us gasping for air.

13. Miley Cyrus

What: Zac Posen

When: 2018

Why: Of all of the many phases of Miley we have been privileged to see, this Miley, elegant, refined and womanly feels her most timeless. As of late, Miley has evolved into one of the most stunning fashionistas with the most powerhouse talent to match.

12. Celine Dion

What: Zuhair Murad Couture

When: 2017

Why: It is no secret that Celine has transformed into a sartorial swan in recent years thanks to the many head turning lewks she has created with her stylist Guy Law. She is giving her all to the carpet while giving zero FOOKS at the same time. This Zuhair gown legitimately makes me burp it is so chic with that ‘yea the neckline is THAT LOW’ sensibility and the emerald hue enhances Celine’s inner royal swagger.

11. Solange Knowles

What: Gucci

When: 2017

Why: Solange is one of those girls who just gets fashion. She doesn’t take it too seriously and she doesn’t let it do the talking for her. This Gucci moment is simply flawless. Metallic and brash in all the right ways with knife pleats (MUH JAMMMM!!!) coming from every which way is all kinds YAAS.

10. Taylor Swift

What: Atelier Versace

When: 2016

Why: This was the final event on the rocket ship that was Swift’s 1989 album. She had officially evolved from Country Music’s favorite little sister, into a woman with juggernaut star power and supermodel legs. Also, I just have a special place in my heart for the color combination used here as well as her seemingly hair homage nod to Anna Wintour.

9. Ciara

What: Alexandre Vauthier Couture

When: 2015

Why: I just do not think there is a lewk that Ciara cannot pull off. This was a full on MOMENT though, from the fluid movement of the toile, to the futuristic metal belt and that swept back hair. But Sis… Sis brought them damn leg’s HENNY and she is not here to play no games. I mean, look at her QUADS ?!!!?! Just slay. Slay all day.

8. Eve

What: Naeem Khan

When: 2018

Why: Eve is just that bad ass chick you want to read you inspirational poetry ya know? Just me? That’s cool. I have long been a fan of Eve’s masculine tinged wardrobe decisions and this is maybe my favorite look for the rapper I have ever witnessed. She’s bringing clean lines, precisely perfect tailoring that’s embellished like a Rockafeller and giving you that sexy and effortless caramel hair moment that just makes my heart sing.

7. Kim Kardashian

What: Jean Paul Gaultier

When: 2015

Why: So, let’s be real; This is the most covered and least tailored lewk Kim K has ever rocked. However, it is also, to me, one of her best moments on a red carpet. It is giving the sexy that we know and love her for, but it is also CHIC AS FOOK!! The hair? Check. The Glam? Check Check. I’m here for it, I’m on time for it. Snaps Claps Congrats Kim. Ya done did it good.

6. Adele

What: Valentino

When: 2013

Why: Why are you asking me Why? Could she be anymore adorable? I love the overtly polished and proper britishness of it all. It makes me smile. I want to have tea now. and cookies. Or is it biscuits? I don’t think biscuits sound too amazing paired back to tea but anywho, I digress. She is serving short cocktail on a carpet that lends itself to long couture, and it just feels very authentically Adele. The hair is timeless and the gams are on full display. It’s a High Five from me Mama.

5. Nick Jonas

What: Balmain

When: 2017

4. Beyonce

What: Armani Privé

When: 2010

Why: This was the year that Bey wore three lewks that were all equally stunning and stupendous. However, this micro mini with metallic embellishments and exaggerated shoulders just feels like Beyonce: Warrior Princess with the perfect wind machine inspired hair. She’s like Xena, but instead of screeching she belts. A welcome improvement if you ask me (our apologies to Lucy Lawless).

3. Lady Gaga

What: Armani Privé

When: 2010

Why: Lady Gaga has never appeared the same twice. It is arguably one of our favorite things about her. This was her shining star (get it?) moment, in which she gave us full celestial queen. The embellishment is perfection and the pose is so good I copy it on the regular when ordering my morning coffee (*strikes Pose, ‘Venti Cold Brew kind sir’) And I just have to give her a round of applause for bringing a prop.

2. Jennifer Lopez

What: Versace

When: 2000

Why: Ok, so technically this doesn’t count as recent years, but there simply cannot be a list of best Grammy dresses that doesn’t include this. It is still referenced today (mostly be me), and it cemented her legacy as one of the sexiest women to ever walk the earth. It also looks extremely comfortable, which is my favorite part of the whole game. People are like, ‘wow she is so daring so brave’, and Lopez is all ‘um I tend to run hot, so I need something that can breath’. Genius.

Which leads us to my pick for the best Grammy’s lewk of recent past

the good Girl gone bad herself… Rihanna

What: Giambattista Valli Haute Couture

When: 2015

Why: I remember this night like it was yesterday. The red carpet had all but ended, and the big show was under way, when I happened to do a refresh on Vogue’s best dressed of the night, and there she was. A legitimate cupcake princess of my dreams complete with a fuck off and look how good my gown is topknot. It is ultra feminine, but also, and go with me here, timeless. Rihanna is known for giving a full on theme and vibe and this specific evening she gave us girly girl gone wild and we could not be making more Z snaps in the air than we are right now.

Who will leave me speechless from this year’s show?

make sure to check back later this week to read my 2019 Grammy’s Best dressed list for PaperCity magazine!
