gumption gear Monse

Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, the brain trust behind the highly coveted clothing of Monse, have become a must have in the closets of every fashion savant. But with their Spring / Summer ‘19 and their just released Pre Fall ‘19 collections, they have committed to not only filling the ladies side of the closet, they now have their sights set on the fellas as well.

Since its inception in 2016, Monse has been a highly buzzed about collection. Laura Kim, a BFA graduate from Pratt, and Fernando Garcia, a graduate of Notre Dame (Architecture was a main focus), both ended up taking significant roles at Oscar de la Renta. In the spring of 2015 they departed Oscar to create the juggernaut we now know as Monse.

But the accolades didn’t end there; in September of 2016, they were appointed co-creative directors of Oscar de la Renta, officially making them the power duo of the New York fashion scene.

Original womenswear silhouettes began with the idea of deconstructing the men’s dress shirt, so it was only a matter of time before the boys (yours truly included) started to shop the new update in the ladies department. Don’t believe me? Behold…

Monse & Me

Now in its thirteenth season, Monse has established itself as the go to brand for those seeking staple pieces with a modern twist whether they be female or male. However, with their Spring / Summer 2019 collection, they officially committed to this, the most natural of evolutions, Menswear. Natural in that both Kim and Garcia say that their male friends were already wearing it, so why not just do it on purpose? Yesterday’s Pre Fall 2019 collection continued this evolution, one with which I am a massively large fan. Peep some of my must have Menswear from both collections in the gallery below.

The truth of the matter is that most Menswear often lends itself to being just a classic song stuck on repeat. Monse, however, has managed to make menswear exciting again, a fete this fashion nerd is quite thankful for. Long live the #MANse
