why we wardrobe

Maybe you think Wardrobing and Styling are only services available to celebrities or the wealthy. Or It’s possible you’re skeptical if this kind of service would even suit you? Maybe you just don’t believe that what we put on our backs can shape our self image and effect our self esteem. Questions and concerns like these are common in my profession, and they are also valid topics to discuss. Therefore, allow me to plead the case for Why We Wardrobe by using the Oprah Winfrey method for clear communication;

What is our intention?

Why does it matter?

What’s important to Takeaway?

What is our Intention?

To me the intention of a stylist is be your lifeline when it comes to building a healthy self image. Now, that sounds like a very loaded sentence, but everyone needs to have a healthy self image. Whether you’re a school teacher, astronaut or Opera singer, your image is what you portray without ever opening your mouth.

“Essentially, your self image is the way the world sees you.”

This doesn’t mean you are dripping in diamonds or couture gowns from dusk to dawn, but rather that strong self confidence can be built both by how we communicate and how we dress.

Why does it Matter?

How we are perceived by the world is not the reason for someone to hire a stylist. It’s not about fitting into a certain mold or stereotype to be accepted, it’s about loving who you are when you feel you’re well dressed.

“You hire a stylist to incite confidence in who you are and how you want to be perceived.”

I have seen it happen time and time again within my career that when a person puts on a garment that they love, their body language shifts. Suddenly their shoulders arch back, they smile without noticing it, and there is a gleam in their eye which I’m pretty sure could be best expressed using the phrase ‘ok boo… I see you…’.

What’s Important to Takeaway?

The main misconception about personal stylists is that we are here to make you buy all new things, but that simply is not the case.

“It is not about purchasing an entire new wardrobe, it is about falling back in love with the pieces you already own.”

Now of course, during closet consults we often find things that have seen better days or are on their last legs so we want to replace them, or you’ve been wanting to buy a certain item and can’t seem to find it. Purchasing new pieces happens for sure. But I like to invest more time in what makes your wardrobe yours. I like to take the things you love in your closet, the Hero Pieces, and put them on display. They make you feel happy and confident and oft times are associated to great memories in your life.

And lastly, the most important takeaway is that clothes should make you happy.

“Fashion should be fun.”

They say that fashion is the whipped cream of the service industry, but I’m perfectly fine with that; the whipped cream is the best part.
